Audition/Interview Requirements

AUDITION & INTERVIEW REQUIREMENTS BY MAJOR


BA Acting (International Performance Ensemble)

Acceptd pre-screen upload**:

  • Headshot or photo
  • Resume
  • 2 contemporary (written after 1945) monologues, contrasting, from published full-length plays
  • 1 (optional) reel that includes any work you have done in film, TV, voice-overs, or commercials
  • 1 (optional) "wild card" that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

In-person callback audition:

  • At your callback audition, you will likely only present one of you monologues - though be prepared with two. The faculty may give you adjustments or other direction on these at your audition.
  • Auditions will end with a movement workshop with International Performance Ensemble faculty.

**All three acting majors upload the same materials on Acceptd; prospective students select which major or majors they are interested in as they create their Acceptd profile.


BFA Acting

Acceptd pre-screen upload**:

  • Resume
  • 2 contemporary (written after 1945) monologues, contrasting, from published full-length plays

  • 1 (optional) "wild card" that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

In-person callback audition:

  • At your callback audition, you will likely only present one of you monologues - though be prepared with two. The faculty may give you adjustments or other direction on these at your audition.
  • You will be assigned a scene partner and scene and check-in and present this in front of faculty after the monologue round.
  • Auditions will end with a movement workshop with BFA Acting faculty. Not all students will be called back for the movement workshop.

**All three acting majors upload the same materials on Acceptd; prospective students select which major or majors they are interested in as they create their Acceptd profile.


BFA Acting for Film, Television, Voiceovers & Commercials

Acceptd pre-screen upload**:

  • Headshot or photo
  • Resume
  • 2 contemporary (written after 1945) monologues, contrasting, from published full-length plays
  • 1 (optional) reel that includes any work you have done in film, TV, voice-overs, or commercials
  • 1 (optional) "wild card" that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

In-person callback audition:

  • At your callback audition, you will likely only present one of you monologues - though be prepared with two. The faculty may give you adjustments or other direction on these at your audition.
  • You will participate in a screen test with an assigned scene and off-camera reader and present this in front of faculty after the monologue round.

**All three acting majors upload the same materials on Acceptd; prospective students select which major or majors they are interested in as they create their Acceptd profile.


BFA Commercial Dance

Acceptd pre-screen upload:

  • Headshot or photo
  • Resume
  • 2 photos (full body) – one in first arabesque en l’air and the second pose of your own choosing
  • 1 solo dance video under two minutes - can be in a studio or as a featured dancer and choreographed by yourself, a teacher, or friend
  • 1 (optional) "wild card" that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

In-person callback audition:

  • Be prepared to spend four hours with us and participate in ballet barre and center, jazz combo, tap combo, and hip hop evaluation

BA Directing (International Performance Ensemble)

Acceptd pre-screen upload:

  • Resume
  • Directing portfolio that includes any materials that pertain to your experience or interests in directing
  • One short video clip of yourself in which you discuss your director’s vision for a play OR discussing your personal or artist statement: Why directing? Why Pace?
  • 1 (optional) "wild card" that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

In-person callback interview:

  • Prospective students need to prepare their vision for one of the following plays: Romeo & Juliet, The Seagull (Chekhov), or A Doll's House (Ibsen). The discussion will focus on your approach to the production, your staging and design ideas, and the way you will be working with the actors during rehearsals. Your emphasis should clearly impart your artistic vision and focus less on the plot of the play. You may also want to discuss the type of theater in which the production will take place and the specific audience who will be seeing it.
  • Prospective students will also participate in the movement workshop with the BA Acting candidates.

BFA Musical Theater

Acceptd pre-screen upload:

  • Headshot or photo
  • Resume
  • 1 contemporary (written after 1945) monologue from a published full-length play
  • 2 song selections, contrasting, each under 1 minute (2 minutes total)
  • 1 (optional) dance solo - can be in a studio or as a featured dancer and choreographed by yourself, a teacher, or friend
  • 1 (optional) "wild card" that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

In-person callback audition:

  • At your callback audition, you will present your monologue. The faculty may give you adjustments or other direction on these at your audition.
  • You will also present both of your song selections for the faculty. Have 16-bar cuts of these ready should the faculty request a shorter version. You are required to have sheet music to supple the accompanist for on-campus auditions. For Chicago and Los Angeles auditions, you'll use recorded accompaniment.
  • Half of the audition will be a dance call consisting of ballet, jazz, and tap - bring appropriate shoes and attire.

BFA Production & Design for Stage & Screen

Acceptd pre-screen upload:

  • Resume
  • Portfolio that includes any and all relevant material for you as a designer or stage technician
  • 1 (optional) “wild card” video clip that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

Interview:

  • In-person interviews are preferred, though some students may elect to have a phone or Skype interview. Be prepared to discuss your portfolio, experience, and interest in Pace/NYC

BA Stage Management

Acceptd pre-screen upload:

  • Resume
  • Portfolio that includes any and all relevant material for you as a stage manager - samples from a prompt book, contact sheets, etc.
  • 1 (optional) “wild card” video clip that can be anything you want - be your creative and interesting self!

Interview:

  • In-person interviews are preferred, though some students may elect to have a phone or Skype interview. Be prepared to discuss your portfolio, experience, and interest in Pace/NYC
