JoAnn Y. Tongret

JoAnn has performed and choreographed in theaters throughout the country including New York’s Lincoln Center, Playwrights’ Horizon, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Cincinnati Conservatory’s Hot Summer Nights, the Arizona Opera Company, the Arizona Ballet, and for the Royal Viking Cruise Ship Lines. She has worked with such personalities as Michael Bennett, Larry Fuller, Jamie Hammerstein, Shirley Jones, John O'Hurley, Judy Kaye, and Buddy Ebsen.
JoAnn is the current co-recipient of the George C. Wolfe Fellowship presented by the Society of Directors and Choreographers, and most recently appeared at the Laurie Beechman, Birdland, the Ellington Room, and the Puffin Arts Center. Her plays have been produced at both the Colorado and Arizona New Works festivals and her book, DREAM DEALER (StarCloud Press, 2007) chronicles the life of director/producer Stuart Walker. She is also a member of Actors Equity, the Dramatists Guild, and the Lambs, Inc. She is an Emerita of Arizona State University's Institute of the Arts where she taught musical theater and was resident choreographer for Lyric Opera Theater. JoAnn is married to author/playwright, Alan Tongret.
