Julia Proctor

Julia Proctor is an actor, clown, and educator. She has performed and workshopped new plays with Arena Stage, The Kennedy Center, Ford’s Theatre, New Dramatists, The Lark, Project Y, Cincinnati Playhouse, Round House Theatre, and Synetic Theatre, among others. She’s a founding member of The Funny School of Good Acting’s Commedia Company, devising and improvising irreverent comedy with a bunch of other masked fools. Julia is a proud member of Actor's Equity. 

After completing a pedagogical apprenticeship with master clown teacher Christopher Bayes, Julia founded Clown Gym, an accessible weekly lab for artists to study theatrical clown and games. Over the years, she's studied with some of the best clown teachers in the world including Philippe Gaulier and Aitor Basauri. She has a BA from Middlebury College, and an MFA from Shakespeare Theatre Company's Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University. 

Her original work has been produced by Clown Gym, Project Y Theatre Company, Dutch Kills Theatre Company, and The People’s Improv Theatre. She is also a director, and runs the theatre department at Brown Ledge Camp in Vermont. More info at juliaproctor.com and clowngym.com.
